Podcasting: What is a Podcast?
A Podcast or "Podcasting" is basically
making audio files available online
in
a way
that allows software (such as the new free iTunes
software from Apple) to automatically download the files
for listening at the
user's convenience. These files are usually saved as MP3 audio
files.
Why Create a Podcast?
Imagine listening
to your favorite talk show on a bike ride whenever to want, day
or night. Hear movie reviews while actually in line at the
box office. Catch the
11:00 Nightly News at 6am in the morning. Reach your audiance
as they work out at the gym or as they attend your event. Instead
of a country-wide conference call, people could download a Podcast
version of your Quarterly Meeting. Choose the time. Choose the
place. Choose the show. Save for later or
listen
now.
Think
of Podcasting as "Radio Your Way". Podcasts do not require "streaming"
or being stuck in front of a computer. Podcast can be downloaded
to any MP3 player, not just Apple iPods. Podcast are free to users
(although in theory, one could charge for these podcasts in the
near future, thus creating another source of revenue for your company!)
How to Make a Podcast
- We help you record your message or "show" (usually
no longer than 60 minutes of recording)
- We publish the recording to your web site
To share your podcast with iTunes users, we
would need to create an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed
from your site for you.
- Once we've created your
RSS file, your podcast is ready to be shared with the rest
of the world! To make it easier for people to discover your
podcast, we suggest you try to publish it in the iTunes
Music Store.
